| | | June 1st, 2016 | | Prize Winner of the Innovation Award Laser Technology 2016
The Innovation Award Laser Technology 2016, initiated by the associations
Arbeitskreis Lasertechnik e.V. and the European Laser Institute ELI and provided with
10 000 € prize money, has been conferred to Dr. Ir. Armand Pruijmboom, General
Manager of Philips GmbH Photonics Aachen on 27th April 2016 in Aachen´s town hall.
Dr. Ir. Armand Pruijmboom and his team have got the first place in the open prize
competition with the innovation VCSEL arrays: A novel high-power laser technology
for “digital thermal processing". The jury composed by ten international experts has
selected 3 outstanding finalists among the 15 submitted applications.

The European Laser Institute ELI has elected board chairman Dr. Paul Hilton
The annual members’ meeting of the European Laser Institute ELI took place on May 14, 2013 in Munich at the LASER World of Photonics. Dr. Paul Hilton was elected chairman of the ELI Executive Board.

Open call for applications for the Innovation Award Laser Technology 2014 – closing date January 17, 2014
The Innovation Award Laser Technology is a European research prize provided with 10.000 Euro prize money and awarded at 2-yearly intervals jointly by the associations Arbeitskreis Lasertechnik e.V. and the European Laser Institute ELI in recognition of outstandingly innovative work in the field of laser technology. The call for proposals is open. Closing date for applications is January 17,2014. Application forms can be downloaded at www.innovation-award-laser.org. The official presentation of the award will take place in Aachen´s town hall on May 7, 2014 at the International Laser Technology Congress AKL´14 (www.lasercongress.org).

Light: Science & Applications (LSA), a new online open access journal, has just been launched with the publication of its first articles. The journal is co-published by Nature Publishing Group (NPG) and the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences. LSA covers fundamental research as well as issues in the applied sciences that are related to optics and photonics. The journal is live at www.nature.com/lsa.
